Hi Danny,

Not sure - I haven't installed iOS 4 on my 3G, so I haven't tested this with the latest version of iOS. When my iPhone 4 arrives (Wednesday!), I'll test it out and see if I can figure out what the problem might be.

(Update, 9 September: Tested on my iPhone 4 and the ads come in just fine. Danny, if you're experiencing this problem consistently, email me with more details and I'll see if I can try to reproduce what you're seeing - or not seeing, as the case may be.)

Thanks,
Darren

Hi Andrew,

When I test the code in desktop browser, I also get a blank white page. If I put the 'ad.html' file onto a webserver and load that page in Safari on my iPhone, I get an ad. So my guess is that Admob is doing some browser detection and only sending ads when the UA is a mobile browser.

Hi OderWat,

You will need to create an AdMob account, and then under "Sites & Apps", select "Add Site/App". Select "iPhone Web" from the list of choices, and follow the prompts. For the URL field I just pointed to the info page on my site for the game in which I embedded the ads.

I don't know if/how AdMob checks to see if I'm complying with their guidelines; you'd have to talk to AdMob about that.

Hi Darren,

what are the details about the AdMob Website? How do they check if the site is OK with their guidelines and what do you enter in creating this entry on their site anyway?

Hi Alistair - I am using brute force in the pure AS3 method and the Pixel Bender method. I thought it would provide for a better comparison between the two methods, although there are undoubtedly faster ways of doing it (as your example shows).

Interesting article! Were you using a brute force method to calculate the new state of the Game of Life? With pure AS3, you can get an big speed increase by letting a convolution filter do all the calculating for you. Here's my example: http://www.stdio.co.uk/blog/actionscript/conways-game-of-life/

I wonder if any similar optimisations could be brought in with Pixel Bender? :)

Just posted my own MAX musings too, although unlike you and Dale I forgot to say how great it was to share beers and reconnect with all you guys again. Guess I'm just a cold thoughtless jerk. Good luck in Japan market, you have it EASY ;)
