MITACS-IIMS Interactive Media Workshop

October 20th, 2008

On October 27 & 28, I’ll be participating in the Workshop on Interactive Media hosted by Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS) and the Institute of Industrial Mathematical Sciences (IIMS). It’s a two-day event where the first day features a series of presentations from various companies involved in interactive media about what it’s like to work in the industry, followed by a second day of sessions where participants solve mathematical/computational problems they might encounter while developing interactive content. My problem will start with developing an algorithm to analyze poker hands and, time permitting, extend that to consider other aspects of poker, such as betting, bluffing, etc.

It should be an interesting couple of days! I’m used to hanging out with grad students, but given what my graduate degree is in, it’s usually been a different breed of grad student!

Mobile Events at MAX

October 6th, 2008

If you’re attending MAX in San Francisco this year, there are some great mobile-related events lined up that you should think about attending:

  1. Mobile Summit – on the Sunday before MAX gets started;
  2. Mobile at MAX – some of the mobile sessions at this year’s conference; don’t forget about 20 Tips and Tricks for Building Top-Performing Mobile Applications!
  3. Mobile Networking Event – got an idea for a great new mobile app/service? Here’s your chance to pitch it!

Should be lots of fun!
